Another grotesque sign of human rights violation in Iran

Recently, Military Service Organization of Iran has announced that all the permanent military service exemptions which were issued for over 50,000 patients with weight abnormalities since 2003 are nullified and all those people have to participate in the two-year-long military service. Angry protest movements are likely to be seen in the following days as a result of this astounding announcement of an illegal decision. The fact that this type of exemptions was permanent and could not be legally nullified had caused the majority of those people to plan for their future life getting married, starting families, obtaining jobs, establishing business corporations which certainly have obligations to other ones, taking out loans they had planned to repay in several years, and etc

Not surprisingly, with very low rate of the wages paid to military service participants in Iran, which is in the vicinity of $500 per year, many of those people won’t be able to keep their families, let alone their businesses. High inflation and unemployment rate has made it too difficult for many young adults to start a standard life in Iran in recent years and decisions such as making thousands of them to give up their hard achieved successes will be an obvious oppression

Most obviously, the consequence of the failure of those mentioned plans of over 50,000 people will be a considerable damage to the weak economy and industry structures of the country, threatening family cohesions, and worsening the government’s reputation for violating human rights
